As we step into the warmth of Summer, why not sample some of the best tastes of Italy right here in Sheffield city centre in one of the best spots for basking in the sun and sampling al fresco dining. Located in the heart of the Millennium Square you’ll find Piccolino, a suave Italian that prides itself on serving the best and freshest Italian cheeses, meat, seafood and seasonal produce. Reflecting authentic Italian flavours and a passion for the provenance of ingredients, the restaurant offers a wide variety of both modern and classic Italian dishes, which are all prepared in an open kitchen in full view of diners.
We caught up with Piccolino’s own Events Sales Manager, Alicia Mckay, to find out more about why Piccolino is the perfect place to enjoy top-notch weather and good food until the late hours for a truly Italian dining experience. Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’ve actually only been a part of the Piccolino team for a month! This is a fantastic company to work for, there are lots of opportunities for staff development and individual growth. Piccolino has been based in the Peace Gardens in Sheffield City Centre for nearly 11 years. This part of the city attracts a lot of businesses and restaurants, and the outdoor terrace is second to none in Sheffield.
What’s been your highlight of working here so far?
There’s such an extensive number of events we put on in the city, it makes Piccolino a really fun environment to work in. We’ve got some absolutely brilliant events coming up over the next few months.
One of the biggest I’ve been involved in so far is the summer wine tasting events we have going on throughout the summer. Our head sommelier will be joining us for wine tasting and canapes, and will be taking part in a Q&A session too.
I’m also really looking forward to the Charlotte Tilbury make-up masterclass we’re holding this summer! This is the first time the masterclass has come to the city, it’s been a huge hit in our Manchester branches so we’re really excited to get it going in Sheffield. Guests can enjoy prosecco, a signature make-up look from the experts, a Q&A session and a 3 course menu of our tastiest treats.
When does Piccolino see the most customers?
Our early evening menu is really popular, I want to let even more people know about it because it’s top-quality food, and it’s really great value for money! You can choose from 1, 2 or 3 courses before 6pm, the bruschetta con gamberoni is amazing.
So many people work in the city centre, we really want to encourage more to stick around after work. On weekdays we’re steady, but Friday nights and the weekend...you just can’t move!
Where’s your favourite place in Sheffield city centre?
If you’re talking about the whole city, Ecclesall Road has to be my favourite! I really love the Peace Gardens, they’re such a nice place to relax and people watch. It’s been lovely and warm over the last few nights, and I’ve really enjoyed just sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine. Our terrace is definitely one of the best things about Piccolino, and about working here. Outside space in Sheffield city centre can be quite hard to find, so to have a terrace overlooking such a lovely part of the city is a real treat. It’s a very ‘date night’ place!
Anything coming up you want to shout about?
