CODE Sheffield - Getting your groove on after hours

Enjoy getting to grips with Sheffield’s bursting nightlife? Located in the heart of the city centre, CODE offers some of the best drinks and the top tunes around. Each and every week, CODE takes the city by storm with their top selection of club nights, better known as Wonderland Tuesdays, Jump Around Thursdays and, of course, Student Saturdays. Week in week out, CODE plays host to huge crowds and every now and then, they throw a celebrity in the mix to come and party.

We had the pleasure of talking to CODE’s very own Marketing Manager, Simon Tomlinson, to get his thoughts on Sheffield nightlife and what it is about CODE that keeps bringing people back year after year. Use #SheffAfter5 to share your favourite places in Sheffield to grab a drink and have a dance late into the early hours.

What do you like best about working at CODE?

I’ve worked at CODE for about 2 years as the Marketing Manager. I love working here, I come from a background in banking, so working in the bars and nightclub industry feels like coming in and meeting your mates at work. There’s a really fun atmosphere here.

What’s your favourite club night at CODE?

It has to be Student Saturdays, this year every Saturday has been absolutely packed out. We’re a student club primarily, so our weekday events are always busy. On Tuesdays, we run Wonderland with 90p drinks, that’s been getting busier and busier as the year’s gone on. Saturdays are my favourite though, we’ve been seeing more of a local crowd as well as students. We’re turning Student Saturdays into Summer Saturdays for the next few months, all 3 of our club nights are running over summer with a bit of a different focus, as we’ve been so successful this year.

Where’s your favourite place to go out in Sheffield?

Considering I’m a Marketing Manager for a nightclub, I don’t actually always enjoy busy places! I prefer bars where you can have a bit of a chat. I know I’m biased, but I really love Molly Malones, the quiz night is really good.

How do you think Sheffield’s nightlife will change over the next few years?

It’s no secret that the nightclub industry’s been struggling over the last few years, not just in Sheffield but the whole country. We’ve found that sprucing up CODE to make it a new environment for people visiting has really helped. We’re open for big events all year round like Freshers Week and Bank Holidays, we’re in the process of booking headline acts for next year, and we’re holding more nights than ever before...there’s a lot going on!

Something we’re working on at the minute is a collaboration with City Taxis. Whether you’re a student or not, knowing how much your taxi will cost on the way home is really going to help you have a good night. We make sure we only serve good alcohol too, we have cheap drink prices but not cheap drinks!

Tell us about Snapchat…

Up until about a year ago, if you asked anyone in Sheffield who texted them the most, they’d probably say CODE and Dominos! We know getting unwanted texts can be a bit annoying, using Snapchat to share drinks offers and discounts means people can choose what they want to see from us. It’s a lot more visual, so it works really well when it comes to sharing discounts, free entry offers, incentives for drinks and more. We’ve got about 9,000 followers on Snapchat now, so it’s definitely been a really great way of sharing our nights with more people.

Any events coming up you want to shout about?

The next big event we have coming up is A Levels Result Night on Thursday 15th August. It’s been sold out 13 years in a row, and we’ve sold lots of tickets already, so it’s looking like it’ll be the same this year too.

We’re also holding even bigger events for Freshers Week, Halloween and New Year, and our club nights will be going strong all summer.

Yet to experience one of CODE’s legendary club nights? Head down to Eyre Street this Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday from 11pm to experience their unique venue, fantastic drink offers and a mix up of music for plans that set you up for the weekend.
