Christmas in Sheffield wouldn’t be the same without a packed-out market offering warming delights and perfect presents for your loved ones, right? Not to mention the enchanting Christmas lights, Santa’s Post Office, Christmas party on The Moor and Sleigh Bar to lift your Christmassy spirits.
This year, the Christmas market will be returning to Fargate from 15 November right up until Christmas Eve, with its traditional wooden cabins lining the high street with a huge choice of seasonal goodies.
Sheffield’s Christmas Markets will be open from 10am until 6pm every day until Christmas Eve (24 December), so head on over after work to get into that festive mood!
With more than 50 market traders set to descend upon the city, you’ll be able to stock up on plenty of locally-produced food, drink and gifts – 85% of traders are from in and around Sheffield (yes Sheff).
Sheffield’s Christmas lights will be switched on from 2pm on 18 November in the Peace Gardens (the switch-on is at 5:30pm), illuminating the city with thousands of bright lights, bringing us that step closer to getting into the Christmas spirit. With a live choir carolling us through to the evening, street entertainment, kids TV and film characters, Christmas craft activities as well as the all-important fairground rides, if that doesn’t get you feeling Christmassy, we don’t know what will! Heart Yorkshire will also be sound-tracking the evening with a Christmas playlist, entertainment and interviews.
The Big Wheel will also be back as part of the markets this month, offering unparalleled views of the city from above (not to mention a great Insta photo), alongside plenty of fairground rides for kids big and small.
Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about the Sleigh Bar, which will be setting up for the winter nights at the top of Fargate, catering to all your hot chocolate, mulled wine and other Christmas drinks treats needs from 15 November 10am- 10pm every day until 24 December.
On The Moor
Head to The Moor for an afternoon of free festive fun on 18 November from 12:30pm - you’ll find Santa, fairground rides, festive face-painting, a Christmas choir, stilt-walking reindeer, a giant snowman and so much more as it's transformed into a free winter wonderland to get even scrooges feeling that little bit Christmas-sy.
As well as plenty for the kids to do (including the chance to meet the Snow Queen), there’ll also be a living Nativity, real reindeer, snow machines, Christmas elves, dance performances and a brass band to sound-track your Sunday. Find out more here.
Bring the kids
Santa’s Post Office
Back for 2018 (this time at 15 Barker’s Pool), let the kids write their letters to Santa at his Post Office where they’ll send their letter all the way to Lapland using the magic post box. Open from 10am – 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, and opening later (4pm – 7pm) on Thursdays, from 17 November until 17 December and then daily from 10am – 4pm from 18 December – 24 December, this free event is the perfect place to get in the Christmas spirit. Save Christmas with Brearley
Did we mention that our mate Brearley Bear has lost his Christmas list? He needs all the help he can get recovering all the presents on it before Christmas for him goes south. View more about the free interactive trail (complete with light installations) that takes you across the city centre in search of clues here, or visit www.sheffieldchristmastrail.com.
Let your little ones visit the big man at his newly-located grotto at the edge of the Peace Gardens from 15 November, right up until he needs to dash off to deliver Christmas across the UK (Christmas Eve). Let them share what’s on their Christmas list (whether they’ve been naughty or nice) between 10am and 6pm on weekdays, 10am to 7pm on Saturdays and 11am to 6pm on Sundays.
